I like this name, personally. I think it works as a unisex name, but I prefer it on boys. A few years ago, I used this name for a male character in a short story. In that story, he was often referred to as Emmie, causing readers to mistake him for a girl. Although I like this name, it does remind me of the microwave brand.
I like it. This is one of the few names that end in -son that I actually like for a girl. I also like it for a boy. I like Ralph Waldo Emerson, so it would be honoring him and his writing. (http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/16643)

Boy only.
I hate it for both
Don't like it
Boy
Boy
I like it. I'd assume it was for a boy and named after Ralph Waldo Emerson.
ETA: The only -son names that I can easily see on a girl are the ones already popular for girls, like Allison and Madison. Emerson has the nickname Emmy but I think that could be cute for a boy too, it just depends on the person. I think Emmy on a boy wouldn't last beyond puberty while Emmy on a girl could last a long time.

It's Emma and Emmett for parents who want a unisex name (I'd prefer Emery for that purpose).
Or it's for parents who like Thoreau but think the literary connection's too obvious or nerdy.
Or it's for parents who like Addison / Madison but think those are too trendy or dated.
It's okay. It seems unisex (like most surnames) to me, but I'd guess eventually it'll be used more for girls.
I'd prefer Emrik for boys.
