Opinions on Perdita (and a few others)
Replies
Ever a dalmation to me, but having said that ...
... I do know a human Perdita. Well, vaguely. She goes to my university so I know of her. She's from the south of England, very wealthy, so in her circles Perdita might be more usable. To me, it sounds quite snooty but I'd give it to a Sim or something.
Margaret - Very plain, harsh and dated.
Juliet - Very nice; prefer Julietta
Katharine - Plain; far prefer Katherine.
Helena - Beautiful, a long-standing favourite.
Viola - Gorgeous; so much nicer than Violet.
Silvia - Lovely, but I fear it will become the new Sophia. I'm seeing it a lot lately.
Nell - Well I'm an Elinor, and if anyone tries to call me Nell, I spontaneously combust. I don't know why, but I detest it. If it were my full name, I don't know what I'd do.
Miranda - Pretty, different but not weird. I like.

Ah! I went through a phase with Perdita... not where I was totally in love with the name but where I was more... fascinated and amused. I used it as the name of a bratty girl in one of my novels :-)
The rest of the names you listed range from nice to pretty to absolutely gorgeous, imo.

Capt. Malcolm Reynolds - Half of writing history is hiding the truth.

Perdita--reminds me 101 Dalmatians; otherwise, love it
Margaret--I love it, I'd use it with nn Maggie
Juliet--I think it's usable. Prefer it over Julie/Julia. Just don't like them for some reason.
Katharine--Prefer Catherine or some other form of the name.
Helena--I like it, with either the HEL-eh-nah or heh-LAY-na prn.
Viola--Pretty, but some ppl would automatically think the instrument
Silvia--always liked the name
Nell--prefer with an 'e' at the end; simple and pretty
Miranda--Love it!

Perdita -- Great, as long as it's pronounced, "PER-dih-ta," not "per-DEE-ta."
Margaret -- Ever lovely / stately.
Juliet -- Cute.
Katharine -- Ever beautiful.
Helena -- Love it, prefer "Helen + a" pronunciation.
Viola -- Adore it, but only if pronounced, "VIE-uh-la."
Silvia -- Love it. It's a nice alternative to tired Olivia.
Nell -- I didn't know this was a Shakespearean name. But I do love it. Very nostalgic.
Miranda -- Beautiful. Very alluring.
