It's homely, sorry. Nowadays no one wants to be normal, it has even become a bit of an insult (=boring). I think it doesn't work these days. In the 50s people wanted to fit in, nowadays not so much. I think of a suppressed 50s housewife who had to bury all her dreams.
Norman, on the other hand, kind of works for me. But I don't think of "normal" when I hear it. Lorna works too.
