Thoughts on Ethel?
I've started to adore Ethel (not that I need another E name to love). I know it's considered the quintessential "old lady" name, but I think it's a fresh vintage choice. What are your thoughts? Middle name suggestions?
Thank you!
Thank you!

love it!!!!
It doesn't appeal to me. I think it's more antique than vintage - the sound is an archaic style that doesn't appeal anymore.
Ethelinda or Ethelind could be fresh antiques, though. Maybe with nn Ethel - only if it suited the particular girl.
I named my stand mixer Ethel. Because she's sturdy, plain, a little bit funny, and hardworking, and she makes amazing baked goods. Great-grandmotherly.

I don’t think it’s fresh at all. I could never imagine someone under 60 named Ethel - it’s a shriveled-up old name that doesn’t need to be brought back.
Adore
It's unassumingly regal and beautiful. I've loved it for a long time.

My great grandmothers were Ethel and Esther. I thank God Ethel didn't die right before I was born, because I'd have been stuck with Ethel as a first name if she had. As it is, I'm stuck with Esther (I go by my middle name) which is plenty ugly enough, but even it pales in comparison to Ethel.
Ethel has such a heavy, thumping sound to it. It's so drab and dumpy and colorless. It's a sad, threadbare brown cardigan of a name.
Edna, however, is even worse, and that's saying something.

Yep, I agree! I too love e names and while it is an “old lady” name, that doesn’t bother me at all. It certainly would be a fresh vintage choice, but I don’t see it coming back into use for quite a while. Plenty of names work well with Ethel, just depends what kind of mn you would want.
I LOVE Ethel! It is so adorable! I really don't understand the hatred people give it.
Sorry don't like it at all
Oh gross. It's not fresh at all, it's rotten and it smells to high heaven. It's dead now because it deserved to die. Banish it from your mind forever.
Exactly my feelings as well
Perfect description
I feel the same way towards Ethel despite the fact that it was the name of one of my Great-Grandmothers. I think of Ethel as one of those bluntly dated, most unnatractive names. It's right up there with the likes of Barbara, Gertrude, Bertha, Gladys, Helga, Peggy and such.
