Lynn
What do you think of Lynn?It is sweet and simple, I could see it making a comeback. What do you think?I know there are quite a few Lynns in the older generations and many people with Lynn as their middle name, so it might be a good name to honor family members for many people. And now many simpler names seem to come back into style, like Rose.Do you prefer Lynn, May or Rose out of my favorite one-syllable names?

I think it is totally fine. I don't have strong feelings about it. Rose is my favorite of those.

It's the name of my dad. :-D You get a good amount of male Lynns in the Midwest, most in their fifties or older. I really like the name. It's pretty and simple. I'd use it for a girl, though.

Lin is okay. Lynn is dated and the extra n is annoying. I like Rose for an elegant option and May for a cute option.

I like it alright. I like its simplicity. To me, Quinn it has a very similar appeal to Lynn.
I can't see it making a comeback, though. To me it's dated, about like Donna. And tends to seem empty and suffixy, like Ella or Etta, because of all the -lyn names that have been popular and still are.
I'd probably use Rose before I'd use Lynn as a first name for a baby. But I'd rather use Lynn than May - May seems too saccharine to me.
Lynn is a good name for a guy, too, IMO.
Lynn was my middle name given at birth and I think it's lame as a middle name... just seems like a suffix there, or a syllable added solely for rhythm.

I like it! As I said a few posts down I had a dream about it recently. Was never on my mind before that, but I was just making all these pretty combos with it. It’s a pretty little name! And simple and unpretentious etc.I also like Lynna - one of the first names I gave to a sim. Made it up myself *proud* Her boyfriend was Mason and they were cool rocker guys.

I love Lynna.

Wow people really dislike this name!Huh. I guess I think Ys are pretty so it's able to pull off being pretty and plain at the same time to me.I like Rose, Lynn, May in that order btw. I don't really like May. I also don't really like any of them as middle names.I like Joy, Jane, umm Claire is all right, can't think of others.

Lynn is just so so so boring. I remember my cousin telling me she had a great teacher whose first name was Lynn so I suppose she has a great association with it but every time she used to talk about her I couldn’t stop thinking how boring the name was. I know these names are quite unpopular on here but I much prefer Caitlin and Brooklyn because at least they have a nickname option and aren’t just something a name could possibly end in. Also my favourite out of the 3 is May. I like Rose too.

With the rise of so many “-lyn” names like Evelyn, Madelyn, and Katelyn, I think plain Lynn itself probably won’t make a comeback. That being said, Lynn is rather bland. Rose is bland as well, but only as a middle name - it would be pretty refreshing to hear as a first name. May as a first name would be refreshing as well, since Mae has been getting so overused as a middle name.My favorite one-syllable names are Belle, Claire, Eve, Lise, and June.

I prefer May, I think; perhaps because it's a family name with good memories attached. Rose, on its own, is sentimental and hackneyed, and Lynn is lacking in personality, a beige cardigan of a name.I could see a name like Belinda having Lynn as a nn; that would be OK, just as Rose is as a nn for Rosemary or Rosamond. But on their own, no.My three favourite one-syllable names are Clare, Joy and Ruth.

UGH. Lynn has always been one of my least favorite names. Brusque, plain, and unfeminine.Lynn, May, and Rose are all filler middle names, to be honest, although Lynn as such does harken back to earlier generations. I like May (prefer Mae) and Rose, but I wouldn't use either as a middle name.

I have an aunt named Lynne. I really like her. She's my godmother too so it's a double whammy. The name itself though I could take or leave it. I like May better out of the three choices.

I've never been a fan. It's very much a filler middle name and I hate those. Very bland. But maybe it will become fresher sounding after not being used that way so much.

I prefer May out of the 3, Lynn is ok as a mn, maybe a longer version for a first name e.g. lynelle, Lyndal, Lyndy, Lynette, Raelynn, Kaelynn, Jaelynn, Shaelynn, Ashlynn

I don't like Lynn and I never have. However, this is probably because it seems extremely dated to me, and in a really banal way. Lynn is just so unremarkable. It's the mousy secretary of names. But I do wonder whether I'd have liked it back when it was fresh. The sound is fairly nice. I wonder whether Claire will eventually feel like Lynn does now? I prefer May and Rose to Lynn. As a middle name, Lynn is filler like Rose or Grace, but it also feels so dated and dull that it seems like the parents were just like, well, screw it. Let's just go with Lynn because we're both lazy and out of touch.

As far as I know Claire used to be very popular in Britain (top 5) for a long time. Clare was quite common too. Maybe a British person would know if it feels bland and banal now. To me it sounds nice and pretty, but I much prefer Clare over Claire and Clara over both of them.Yes, as a middle name it feels really bland and standard. But I do think it sounds nice and I like the meanings ("lake" in English and the Chinese Lin means "forest" or "jade"). It has a very green, white, yellow and blue nature-image to me personally. Just like May.

Yes, Claire was really popular in the 70s and 80s in the UK. A bit like Jennifer in the US. Saying that, I only know one at the moment. It does seem a bit bland but I can understand why people like it.

I've heard it's very passe in the UK. I'm with you, though. I love Claire, Clare and Clara. Also agree with you that Lynn has a nice sound and meaning.

Claire is quite dated in the UK. I know or have met 6 Claire/Clare’s over 40 - you really can’t move for them!

Claire definitely feels bland and banal to me. Lynn’s younger sister.
