Maia and Maya
Do you like the name?Do you prefer Maia or Maya?If you could choose any spelling, which one and why? (e.g. Maia, Maya, Mya, Myah, Maja etc.)How do you pronounce them?Does this name have a bit of a 2000s vibe for you? It felt really trendy at the time but it has never gotten as popular as I thought it would and is now declining.Do you prefer Maia (any spelling) or Gaia (any spelling)?

I like Maya better because the spelling is so much more straightforward. I pronounce Maia as May-a and Maya as MI-a. I like Mya.

I do like this name and much prefer the spelling Maya. I actually don’t mind the Mya spelling at all. I know it’s most commonly pronounced MY-uh, no matter the spelling, but with Maya and Maya only, I have to say I love it pronounced MAY-uh. I don’t get a dated 2000’s vibe no. Maia is soooo much nicer than Gaia to my ears.

I love both of these names, some days I prefer Maia and other days I prefer Maya. I pronounce Maia as MY-uh and Maya as MAY-uh but I have known a Maya pronounced MY-uh like the Maya people. I find both names simple, sweet and underused, though, as you said, the MY-uh pronunication (spelled in various ways: Maia, Mya, Myah) did get a bit of a run for a while. I don't like Gaia at all.

I used to like Maya (My-ah) but now I prefer Maia (May-ah). I know a Maya and a Maja but I’ve never met a Maia. I suppose it’s not really that popular but I’m not sure why because it’s quite similar to Mia (and a lot nicer). I don’t mind Gaia, but I prefer Maia.

I really like Maya. Maia is also lovely but I think Maya looks nicer and...sturdier, I guess. Mya looks dumbed-down and tryndee; I’m not a fan. As for pronunciation, I say MY-ah for all the spellings you listed in this post. I’m not a huge fan of Gaia, but that’s definitely my favorite spelling.

I love Maia, probably because of the little German cartoon bee but also because the Mayan civilisation, though fascinating in its own way, isn't one I'd like to commemorate. And Maya looks as if people might pronounce it like May, the month, with an -a tacked on. Which is perilously close to 'mare' if, like me, you don't pronounce the -r!I wouldn't touch Gaia with a lump of mud, regardless of spelling.

Maia reads as MIEa to me while Maya is MAYa. I prefer Maia.I'm not a fan of Gaia, I think Kaia sounds better.

I like it, but I don't love it. I agree that it seemed to be really trending for a while and then leveled off. So it does feel maybe a little dated. Maia is my preferred spelling. I do think I am drawn to Gaia a bit more.
