Doris
A woman I know has named her baby daughter Doris. What do you think? On the one hand it just sounds horrible and old-fashioned to me, but on the other hand it might come back? Maybe it needs some getting used to. Does anyone else have a hard time liking names that start with the letter D? Do you think this letter will come back into style? Which names could come back?Doris
Dorothy
Dorothea
Dora
Desirée
Denise
Darlene
Darla
Diane
Dinah

I like it, but I tend to like a lot of the previous hipster-chic names. Its much better than Darlene, Denise, Darla, Diane, and Dora. Its sweet, short, and she can go by the cute nickname Dory.

I love how sensible it is. Plus, Dory is a cute nickname.I don't love many D names, it's true. My favorites are Domitille / Domitilla, Dido, Diantha, and Diodore.

Woah, I would not expect that name on a baby at all. It seems similar to names like Phyllis and Gladys, which I also don't think are ready for comebacks yet. I also don't really like most D names. I prefer male D names over female D names. I just think the beginning D sounds so harsh.

I'm of the opinion that Gladys will never come back. It was popular at the same time that Hazel was (my grandmother Hazel had a sister named Gladys), and while Hazel has come back, Gladys is nowhere in sight. I think if Gladys were going to come back, it would have by now.

I lowkey love Doris. Dorit is more used in Denmark and while I wouldn’t use Dorit IRL, I am secrectly fond of Doris.Doris - I could see it come back. Dorothy - SameDorothea - SameDora - Same. Desirée - I think it’s very pretty so I don’t get why it isn’t overusedDenise - It doesn’t do anything for me but it will come back in a decade or so, I thinkDarlene - SameDarla - SameDiane - I prefer Diana. Diane is more dated at the moment but it’s not a bad name. And I think it will come back in a few decadesDinah - Yeah, I totally see this making a comeback

Doris is a "maybe" for me. I don't love it. But I could probably warm up to it on the right person. I've always thought
Dory was a cute nickname for Dorothy. It could work for Doris, too.

I really like Doris. I pronounce the O more like (AW in SAW) than (OH in OFF)
From your list, I like: Dorothy, Dorothea, & Dinah. I also like Dagmar, Desdemona, Dorcas, Delilah, & Damaris

I like Dinah very much; pity that it shortens to the funereal Di. Dorothy and Dorothea seem to be, not popular exactly but more popular than they were, and that's fine by me. Doris, Dora, Denise, Darlene and Darla are awful! I prefer Diana to Diane, but only as a mn - the Di problem again. One of my best and oldest friends is Desirée, nn Des, and she's also sometimes known as Daisy: I don't like the name on anyone else, but I do love Daisy. My mother knew an older lady who was always called Dora; in her case, her actual name was Deborah! Which makes me shudder at the thought of Debby, but I shudder more at the thought of Dora.

No to Doris. And Dori is not cute.
I do like Darla and could see it on a little one.

Doris is an "Ewwww old lady name" of my youth that I am trying to open my mind to and I think it's starting to work. Not there quite yet. My mother had a cousin she was close to named Doris, born in the 1920s, as you'd expect. The name was wildly popular then.

I have a real soft spot for the name Doris, all due to the late, great, Doris Day. I think it’s really cute and like it a lot. I don’t think it’s going to make a comeback in a huge way any time soon, it’s not quite time for it yet imo. D names I love are Daisy, Daphne, Della, Dorcas (though I wouldn’t use it!), Demelza and Dulcie.

Yay!! I thought I was the only Dorcas fan in the world! :)

I like Doris, it's vintage in a way that could easily come back into vogue. I am used to it already, as I have known older Dorises.
On the D list, my favorites are Dorothea
Dora
Desiree
Darlene
Darla
Diane
and Dinah or Dina.
