Willowdene
Ever since watch Dolly Parton's film Dumplin' I've been thinking about the main character's name Willowdene. It's probably a bit awkward as a FN ( would probably end up as Willow..) so I've been thinking about it as a middle. What do you think?

I love this movie and I actually quite like the name! I wouldn't use it as a first name, but I probably would as a MN

After I figured out what they were actually saying, I spent the whole rest of the movie thinking she had the stupidest name. So much so that it took me out of the story every time the mother said it. It’s easily misheard or misunderstood, there would be constant spelling issues, and it’s unwieldy in a way that three-syllable names usually aren’t. There aren’t any good nicknames, either. Will, Willy and Dene are all deeply unattractive.

I do like the film, but I have a hard time imagining actually using this name on an actual person. But fun fact - Dolly Parton has a sister named Willadeene, which seems very similar to Willowdene! I think it would be a bit odd to have a double name as your middle name. I'm from the South and those are usually first names. :)

Just hearing the name said I would think it's Willadean / Willadeane, if only because I've seen that in old-timey publications (1920s and such). I've never seen Willowdene before. I can't say I'm too fond of the sound - I don't really like the name Dean, either. Basically, I'd much prefer Willow by itself.

Hmm, you know, I like it!

I think it's fun and pretty. I first came across it when raking through SSA lists. It's definitely redneck, but in a fun way. I don't think it does much good as a middle name. It's fancy and flashy. Like keeping your best dress in the closet. I don't think Willow is an inevitable nickname. It's very much WILL-uh-dean. I coluld see Willow sometimes, but also Will and 'Dene.

I think it sounds like an address. "Where do you live - Willowvale or Willowdene?" And I dislike address names.

I love Willowdene! It's cute and very Southern sounding to me.

I think anything goes as a middle name, but if ever a name screamed "redneck" that name is Willowdene.

Rednecks are cool.

"Redneck" and "Yankee" are the same----used as an insult by those who aren't, worn with pride by those who are.

Guess I'm a redneck. Yee yee!

Ha, agreed

Definitely southern but maybe Willow DeeAnne/Deanne would avoid that?

I'm sorry, but I have to agree with what you wrote :/ Just Willow is much nicer.

There was a beautiful cul-de-sac near me growing up (in London) called Willowdene Avenue. I would never have thought it had redneck associations in America!

Double names are seen as very Southern/"redneck" in the U.S. and Willowdene sort of reads as a double name. That and the association with the movie are probably why it conjures up "redneck" for some people.
