The meaning is nice, but in English it is very close to "to hell", so unusable, in my opinion.

Looking at it, I get the feeling that the average American would mishear and/or mispronounce it as "the hell?" Cue a lot of hell jokes. Would not recommend using this in the USA. Elsewhere should be fine. I myself am reminded of the Sahel region in northern Africa though, which is a slightly better association.
I like the meaning, but that's it. The sound or look don't really do anything for me
