Blair
Wdyt of Blair on a girl? I was revisiting the Scottish name list and was really thinking this could be a contender but realized it would result in unfortunate initials. Can you think of anything in the same style? Fresh, confident and simple?

Clare? Or Clair ...

I like Blair for a girl. It's quiet and unusual.

QuoteDue to the influence of the classic name Claire, when I hear Blair I immediately think the bearer is female. But I still don't think I'd ever use it. For me, Blair is one of those names where I love the idea so much more than the reality - it looks really classy and sophisticated when written out, but once I hear it I think of car horns or sirens "blaring." It could make a really nice middle name, though.
My comment on the page for the name itself, and I stand by it.As for similar names... well, besides Claire / Clara, how about:Adria
Alida
Elaine
Hera
Iris
Ivy
Jane
Leah
Zelda
Zoe

ClaireI love Claire, simple, lovely and classic. But its long popularity has made it very common. I know a 50 yr old, 30 yr old, and little girls named Claire. I love it, but don't want to use something so common. I am also avoiding C names.I suppose that is exactly what I was thinking . Blair is similar to Claire... but I guess I have only heard of Blair used as masculine.I like these but doubt my husband would.

Neither of your Blair associations occurred to me.Claire - love, but too common and can't use C names
Briony - like Bryony but realized I can't use B names
May - like Mae but don't see us using it
Lara - been on my list, but don't like the sexual abuse and infidelity of character in Dr Zhivago which is my only association
Lyra - I like it in theory, but don't like saying it
Rose - I do like this, and it could grow on me. Is Rosie avoidable? I just hate that nn.
Joy - neutral
Frida -hate this
Irene - hate this. Love Eileen so don't know why I hate Irene
Anya - no, I know several but also decided I do not like the way this name looks
Camille. - I like this. I'm avoiding C names but I forgot how much I liked this name. Fell in love with it after Bette Davis in Now, Voyager
Isla - was my top name but growing popularity bothers me.
Tara - I was just thinking of this name but I knew so many Taras.
Skye - this is growing on me, but am also avoiding S names.
So, it seems like I am avoiding a lot of letters. I would prefer to avoid S, C, and E as these are my other children's first initials. I also realized B makes bad initials. I also hate how many Z names are popping up in our circles so want to avoid Z.

It's all boy to me. All the Blairs that I know are Male except one. I find it strong and handsome

I guess I have only heard it on males... oh well.
