I like it, but I can see why people don't. I think it sounds young and earthy. I started liking it when I read The Bone People (the character named Simon was very young and it made me and picture the name mainly on a younger kid. They also called him Haimona iirc).

Random note: if I look at "Simon" too long I start getting confused at why it doesn't rhyme with "Timon" (although I think it does in some languages).
