Very ugly and dated, in my opinion. I had a math teacher in school named Barbara whom I didn’t like at all, so that adds to it.

I actually quite like Barbara. It's quite sonorous. I dislike Barb but love Bara and Barrie as nicknames. Babs and Babe are cute, too.

It seems like a bold, solid name to me. Same age as Patricia but opposite personality.

I kind of admire it when I encounter it, including the Barb aspect of it, which reminds me a bit of Rue. I like it as a MN in combos sometimes.

I like Barbara - I don't think it's nearly as frumpy as it's often portrayed (just look at Barb on the first season of Stranger Things for a recent pop culture example). I could see it boomeranging in about 20 years.

Seems like a middle-aged name to me. I really don't like the nickname Barb or Barbie either *cringe* Barb just sounds so harsh. A barb is something sharp, and Barbie is too plastic doll.

I never liked it. Reminds me of barbecue.

I have an 82-year-old Aunt Barb. Yup, born in 1937. I dare say it's dated! lol Besides, a barb is a sharp, pointy, dangerous object, and then there's the Barbarians. Not very good associations!

I don't feel like I can see past how dated it is. It's a name of a lot of my mom's friends, that and Jan.

Not only is it very dated, but the “barb” aspect is very unappealing. Who wants to be named after a sharp pointy thing designed to grab, stick or hurt you? It’s also not a very pleasant mouth feel when I say it. And although Barbie dolls aren’t as popular as they once were, they’re still a huge thing everybody’s heard of, and they’re almost synonymous with superficiality.

I've always disliked it, and have a bad personal association, but honestly it was so popular for so long that I feel I must make an attempt to see what so many others saw in it for so long. So far I've managed classic and some old time charm. As in Barbara Palmer, one of the mistresses of Charles II.

I really like it. OK, it looks a bit repetitive but it sounds fine, and seems to suit all ages and stages. And the Beach Boys' song gives it such a youthful, happy vibe that it doesn't seem dated at all, or not to me anyway.
