Cider
Could Cider ever work, as a name? It's for a girl, of course. ;) **Starfish and coffee, maple syrup and jam/Butterscotch clouds, a tangerine, and a side order of ham**

No, it couldn’t. It’s horrible. Is her first name Apple?

No. Just no.

no ...I can see somebody using it, but that doesn't mean it works; somebody somewhere has probably or will probably use any word you can think of as a name.
There's no ambiguity about cider; it's one thing and one thing only. IT doesn't have any symbolic meaning and no history as anything other than apple juice and the only varations are hot or cold and hard or soft cider.
(And most of the hot cider I have tried tasted like hot stomach acid.)

Nope, it’s just alcohol to me. It might work on a pet.

Would make a good middle name - first name Apple ;)Seriously though it’s not the worst word name I’ve ever heard by a long way.

I’m not sure about Cider as a name but I have over the years known girls called Chardonnay Tequila Brandy Sherry and Stella (Artois).

Maybe if her sisters were named Beer, Wine, and Whisky.

I don't think so, really. I'd never use Sherry or Brandy (or Sherri or Brandi), but they are close enough to Merry and Mandy to seem convincing. But Cider ... unique, and not in a good way. That said, I knew a Natalie whose mns are Sherry Amstella. Her parents met in a pub where her (future) mother was a barmaid, and Amstel (Dutch beer) and Sherry were their favourite drinks. I've got an uncomfortable feeling that she might have yet another mn, but if she does, I've forgotten it and we've lost touch, so I'll never know.

I don't like it, but if names like Rose, River, Bear and Poppy works then surely so does Cider

I think not. Cider. Hmm, no. I can't see it. Plus I don't like the sound of the word. In my head, I hear it said in the worst kind of southern accent: "sahhy-durr."

I think Cinder could work, Cider not so much.

I like it as a character name for a magical realist story set in Appalachia.

Ok, I can definitely see this. You should write it.

I think I'd reserve it for an animal. Like maybe there is a girl named Apollonia / Appalachia "Apple" who calls a pig Cider and another one is named Bob.

I guess it could work. If Apple and Plum work, why not Cider? :)If I were to use the name, I myself would stick with naming a character Cider, though.

Nah. Rhymes with spider.

I like Spider more than Cider.

Since Apple and Cedar are names, yes. It's weirder to me than those, though...since it's a product, rather than a tree...like seeing Salad instead of Kale.I wouldn't consider it, personally.
