I feel like I've seen it a lot on BtN in the last year or two, but that's partly because it's one of my favorites, so I notice it.
I do think it is getting more popular in the US. It's a similar style to Freya maybe, though with a more unusual ending.

I like it a lot. It sounds crisp and fresh, and while I know it's not related to Astra, it reminds me of stars.

I like Astrid, but if I used 'ass' as a name for a body part and/or an annoying person, I probably wouldn't. As it is, I'd use it happily if I had enough daughters, and if I didn't know one particular Astrid who is OK but not someone I'd name a child after!
Taking the three -rid names, I'd rank Sigrid first, then Astrid and finally Ingrid, which I find dull and flat.
