Muriel (not interested in hearing how "hideous" it is--searching for fellow admirers)
I've been thinking about Muriel constantly for the past week. It's been on my (admittedly very long) name list for many years; however, I became enamored of it only recently. I'm not sure why I love it so much--I suppose I find it glittery but also grounded and unostentatious. I know many people consider it awkward to pronounce and unpleasant to hear and some denounce it as an atrocity, so if that's your opinion, kindly withhold it. I'm only interested in those (few?) who admire it.Here are some combos:Muriel Athena
Muriel Augusta
Muriel Carlotta
Muriel Cassandra
Muriel Cecilia
Muriel Diana
Muriel Estella
Muriel Eva
Muriel Felicity
Muriel Francesca
Muriel Frederica
Muriel Geneva
Muriel Georgina
Muriel Ginevra
Muriel Isolde
Muriel Jemima
Muriel Joanna
Muriel Jocasta
Muriel Matilda
Muriel Natalia
Muriel Odessa
Muriel Odette
Muriel Penelope
Muriel Regina
Muriel Richenza
Muriel Rosetta
Muriel Sophia
Muriel Susanna

I think it has that special vintage appeal. My first thought was the nice female teacher in Anne of Green Gables, Miss Muriel Stacy, and Anne says it’s a romantic name. -riel names are very pleasant to my ears in general and I think the more you say Muriel, the prettier it becomes.

On a distant, long-ago branch of my family tree, there is a Letitia Muriel who always went by Muriel and whose sister named her own daughter Muriel after her. I don't mind it; I enjoy the family story; but IRL I far prefer Mariel. On your list, Muriel Athena stands out.

I love Muriel, too. It has this sort of old-fashioned, fairy-like elegance that people seem to overlook. I also love the French version, Murielle.
Muriel Athena, Muriel Cassandra, Muriel Diana, Muriel Geneva, Muriel Isolde, Muriel Odessa, Muriel Odette, Muriel Rosetta, and Muriel Sophia are all nice combos.

I feel kind of protective of it because I had a great-aunt by the name of Muriel. It's okay, but I must say that when we were children, my sisters and I pronounced Aunt Muriel's name to rhyme with "cereal". The pronunciation was a little too hard for child tongues.
