I suppose this is quite pedestrian of me, but I cannot divorce Loretta from "hillbilly". I suppose this is due at least in some part to Loretta Lynn, who yes was a hillbilly in her youth at least. However, I think there was something hillbillyish about it even before she gained any fame. In spite of the fact that my sister had a college friend named Loretta who wasn't in the least a hillbilly. You know what's miles better than Loretta? Lorena!And Rose as a middle name? May as well make her middle name Filler.

I think of Loretta Lynn too ... I prefer Lauretta.
but even stronger than the association of Loretta with "country," is my association of Lorena with Lorena Bobbitt.
