Nelly / Nellie
What do you think of the (nick)name Nelly / Nellie?

I love the name Nellie! It's super cute
My only association is Marlow's ship in "The Heart of Darkness".
I love it, but only as a nickname. My favorite full name for it is Prunella.
I like it a lot, but it also sounds dated in a way that's kitschy, to me.
My great-grandmother was named Jessie Mae and some of her siblings were Nellie, Juanita, and Eldred; those all seem dated-kitschy to me.
But then, I also think of the rapper Nelly. And Nellie McKay and Nelly Furtado.

I think it is ok
On both my father's and my mother's family trees there is a Nellie; one with no mn, the other with a family ln as her mn. The 'no-mn Nellie' could have been named after her paternal grandmother, Ellen; the other one probably got it because it was fashionable then.
I don't think names like Helen and Eleanor need nns - I like the full forms very much - but I do prefer Nellie to Ellie!

It's cute in an old fashioned way. My first thought was of a horse, but since it is just a nickname it isn't like they would be stuck with it.
