I prefer the unorthodox (and possibly not even a 'real' spelling) Cathlene. I doesn't look as severe as 'leen', IMO.

yes I like the spelling Kathleen

I really love Kathleen / Cathleen, partially because its my grandmother and namesake's name. Visually, I prefer Cathleen. It's softer and prettier, but I like the spunk and the classic look of Kathleen too.

I feel like some people think it's dated because anyone with Irish heritage, in the US at least, has one in their family, usually between the ages of 50-100. It's not quite at the trendy vintage place yet but I'm ready for its comeback.

Meh. It's not awful or anything but it was popular for my generation and so I knew a lot of them. In fact, two in my family---my half-sister is named Kathleen and so is my cousin. I far prefer Katherine, but I wouldn't even use that because of the quintillion girls named Kathleen who were around my age. I guess I just got tired of it.

I asked about Kathleen a few months ago on here (also prefer the K spelling), and the consensus seemed to be that it was not bad, but a little dated. Honestly, I want to like it more than I actually do - for some reason, my mouth doesn't want to go from the "th" to the "l" easily. I much prefer Katherine, though either can get you the Kate nickname (or any of the others, really).

Kathleen is very pretty, much nicer than Katherine. I wonder how come you never seem to see Cathleen, and why it looks so odd when Catherine is every bit as popular as Katherine and looks normal, and even Kathryn is completely common.
