I used to not like this name at all. Something about the "ag" sound, I think. However, after I became seriously involved in genealogy research, I've acquired a taste for many of the old names. Agnes is one of them.

It's got a long history. If you look at lists of names from medieval times, Agnes is usually there.

I really quite like it. I like Agatha as well, but I prefer Agnes.

I don't like it, but I feel a weird protectiveness towards it because it was my grandmother's name. I'd like to see it become more popular in the US.

I dislike most AG names, with the exception of Agatha.

I like it, and it's very popular here. I much prefer the Swedish prn over the English one though

I don't like it at all. I have no associations, it just sounds ugly to me. The -AG sound isn't pleasant, and the -gn- next to each other is slightly awkward. I prefer the unrelated, but similar sounding, Agatha.

I don’t mind it at all, it’s quite sweet and wholesome and homely.

Agnes is my middle name and I love it. I was born in the 80s and most of the people my age had middle names like Ann, Jane and Rose but I was the only one with Agnes.

My husband doesn’t like it as he feels it’s old fashioned but I will always love it as I’m the only person I know with Agnes as a first or middle name.

I have no idea why but I’ve always kinda liked it. Recently saw the name Agna and like that too. I don’t know what the appeal is lol. I also like the related Inez.

While I like Inés, Inez, and Agnès, Agnes sounds unappealing and dowdy.

I like the nickname "SWAGnes"

I just can't love it, and I don't know why! It kind of bothers me, actually. I like a lot of names with similar style or sounds. I like Agatha. I like Enid. I like Nessa. I like Beatrice. But *Agnes*... it just wrinkles my nose.

Hopelessly old-fashioned where I'm from (the Netherlands). It peaked in 1952 with about 431 births and has since been in decline - sharply so since the 1970s. In the previous decade (2010s), less than 10 Agneses were born each year. I don't see the name growing in popularity here anytime soon. To the average Dutch person, I would say that the name is about as unattractive as names like Beulah and Gertrude are to the average native English speaker.
