It's not a bad name but I don't really like the sound of it.
I had a good childhood friend named Samantha, but even as a kid, I never liked it. It feels yuppyish and synthetic to me, kind of like an itchy polyester turtleneck.

I like it. It seems very 80's but it has a practical and earthy feel to it.
I have a cousin named Samantha (Sam) who was born in the 80's and another relative who is less than a week old also called Samantha (Sammie). That one surprised me because I do think of it as more dated.
