No, I think one should only be referred to as Sissy by a small sibling.

No, it does not. It isn't even a good nn. It's baby talk for sister.

How 'bout Nancy instead?

I wouldn't even like it as a nickname. It's not pretty, a little... harsh? and of course there's the connotations of weakness or whining. On its own? Unbearable. I'd seriously question the judgement of anyone who gave it to an actual child. And while it's awful at any age, it would be impossible to take seriously on an adult.

I don't think it belongs on a birth certificate but it makes a fine nn.

I like Sissy for a boyJust kiddingI don't like it as a nickname, much less on its own. Of all the nicknames I can't imagine putting on a birth certificate, Sissy is the one I most can't imagine.I know it can be a nickname for Cecilia and a few others, but didn't it start out as what a child would call his or her sister? That makes it seem even dumber.

I don't at all. There's either the implication of weakness or it is as if the person is only a sister and doesn't have an independent identity worthy of a real name.

I like Pansy and Nancy, but Sissy is on a whole other level. It sounds more like a taunt than a name. Similar to but slightly worse than Prissy.Sissel works. Cece could work, at least in the same way that Mimi, Kiki, Deedee, Lulu do.

I don't think it does. I don't even like it as a nickname, it sounds unpleasant to me. It's the same with Cissy and Cece since they evoke the same sound/remind me of the same word

I hope not. It is pretty insulting, don't you think?
