Sally & Polly
As a child I always wanted to name my daughter Sally or Polly. What do you think of these names?

I don’t really like Sally that much. I mean it’s ok, but nothing super special. Polly is cute, I like it’s vintage vibe. My daughter named one of her dolls Polly!

I've always loved Sally. My father wanted to name me Sarah after his late mother, but my mother found a name she preferred, and so do I. But, if they'd thought about Sally as an alternative, I'd have been very happy. I don't think about Sally as a nn at all, just a derivative.Polly is a family name, but only as a nn for Mary. Once again, I wouldn't expect a modern Mary to be known as Polly, but it doesn't seem to be used much as an independent name, unlike Sally. If I used it, it would be as a full name in its own right, and I do like it very much, but there are other names I like better so realistically Polly would never get a look in.

I don't care for either, but I like Sally better of the two. It seems more usable.

I really like Polly and would be happy to see it in use. I'm not a fan of Sally, but I'd be hard-pressed to say why, except that it reminds me of straw, which is totally unhelpful.

I like both, but like Sally more. I have a good friend named Sallie so the name has good vibes for me.

I don't care for either, but dislike Polly more than I do Sally. Can't say why, I just don't like 'em.

Sally sounds like a winsome little girl in an old children's book that has unequivocal moral at the end. Polly reminds me of a parrot or a serving girl in a British period piece. They both are okay as a nickname but are very informal.

I like both of them, especially Sally. I'd consider it for a daughter, but I don't think the love is strong enough to actually use.

I adore the name Polly and it's one of my top names. Sally is sweet and I'd definitely have it on my list if I could think of a nice middle name for it.

Sally is cute, fun and can work on an older woman.Polly is a parrot.

I don't like them, but I do like the names they're nicknames for - Sarah and Mary.

I always thought that Polly was a nickname for Paul/ Paula, but according to BtN, you are right. Huh, Mary turning into Polly is quite the stretch.
