Cat
What do you think of Cat as a nickname for Catherine, not on its own? I knew a Catherine in college who went by Cat.I can't decide if I like it or if it's too catty.

If it’s a nickname, then sure. I actually like it better than Kate.

I don't like it much. There's something about the abruptness that puts me off. I don't even think of the animal. It's more just the sound and the brevity.

Love it. It makes me think of Kat Ashley, Queen Elizabeth I's lady-in-waiting. She was Katharine, I believe.Catherine, nn Cat, makes me smile. :0)

There's a journalist on BBC World television news called Katty Kay: her birth name was Katharine Kay but professionally and presumably also socially she's known as Katty. Which I find decidedly feline, but she carries it off pretty well.Is it that much worse than Kitty? Perhaps a grown-up version? I like Kitty a lot as a nn for Katharine, and if I'd listened to DH and named a daughter Katharine (except it would have been Catherine if I'd really listened to him), I'd have done my best to have Kitty as her nn rather than Kate, Katie and the previously fashionable Kathy; not to mention Caitlin etc.

I think it's fine as a nickname. I don't particularly love it. I wonder what I'd have people call me if I was Catherine. Probably Catherine and Cathy sometimes. But I bet I would have gone by Cat in HS.

It's alright. I prefer Kat, though. I knew a lovely Kat.

I've known several. It's okay - not as peppy as Kate or Katie and more modern seeming than Kathy or Kitty. Cat's pragmatic, maybe a little sassy.

I don't care for it and I'm a cat person. I prefer other nicknames for Catherine/Katherine/Kathryn etc. Ones that sound more "name-like"
