I was surprised by how much I liked Walter when I first heard a kid called it, same as Sterling; I hate-love it, not sure why. Walter reminds me of dark wood and Disney.

Leon sounds a smidge stodgier than the more popular Leo, but not as stodgy as Lionel (Lionel's my fav, haha). It's alright.

I ADORE Leon and feel neutral about Walter. I likely wouldn't use Leon myself but would love to come across one some day.

I like Leon, Walter is fine but if I heard it on a baby I would be a bit surprised if I heard it. For W sounds, I prefer Wilbur though. Walt is a ugly name, though.

I love Walter and I’d use it in a heartbeat if my Dad hadn’t named is dog that. I’ve loved it since I read the Anne of Green Gables series as a kid.

Leon is just okay. The only “leo-“ name I really like is Leonidas, nn Nye.

I prefer Leon over Walter. But I'd like Leo even better. Walter seems outdated.

I like Walter, and Walt is a cute nn that ages well. Leon sounds slimy to me (though I like Leo).

I prefer Leon by far as I've recently started to like it, and I've never liked Walter, sounds a bit too much like Water to me.

Far prefer Walter, even with the nn Wally! Leon is quite popular among Afrikaans-speaking South Africans, but it's not a sound I enjoy. I prefer Leo, but not enough to use.

Big fan of both. They're so endearing and versatile! I love Walter a little more than Leon.

I'm biased b/c Walter was my grandfather's name and Leo is a family name, so I like both. Leon and Walter both feel classic. It is hard to imagine a baby with either name for a first name, as I associate both with older generations, but I enjoy the sound of both. --V
