I have met two of them and both of them left me with a bad opinion of the name. One of them was a foster child and may have been reacting to previous experiences but the other one had no such excuse as her upbringing is stable and yet she has still put me off the name.

I really like Chantal, and feel like I'm in the minority on BtN with this opinion. Not sure if I'm as warm on Chantelle, though. "Singer" (feminine) in French is chanteuse, so Chantelle does look a bit like "little singer," but I still prefer Chantal.

Rather drab and dated.

I love Chantal. I met only two.

It's attractive but also sounds a bit like some kind of perfume or shampoo.

It's a nice name and easily usable. Knew a couple of Chantelle / Chantal's in school so the name is unusual to find but not odd. I go back and forth preferring Chantal and Chantelle. I think right now I prefer Chantal but both are equal in my eyes
