Melania
This is the name of a girl on my nine year old niece's soccer team. I won't lie, it was weird to hear it. WDYT? Hmm. Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

While I love the similar Natalia, I just can't warm up to Melania. I much prefer Melanie. And, perhaps, the Trump association has something to do with it. I agree with you that Melania would seem a little odd on a child. Then again, I've never met anyone with the name so I have no positive association.

Poor girl was named before we associated it with Trump. If it weren't for that then folks probably wouldn't think twice. I'm sure her parents are a little chagrined about it.

I just think of Melania Trump and “malaria”.

Even without the First Lady association, I like Melanie better.

Here in Poland, it's mostly associated with lower middle-class parents trying to sound posher by giving their children foreign-sounding names. Not my cup of tea.

I think it's mellifluous, and it doesn't strike me as weird or particularly rare.

It's the standard form of Melanie in various languages though I guess in the US it's too closely associated with Mrs Trump right now? Well if the girl is 9 it's highly unlikely her parents made the connection.

Yeah, they probably heard the name, and thought it was pretty, and different.

I prefer Melanie. Mélanie is even better in my opinion, with the accent. It looks sophisticated and French. Melania is too closely associated with Melania Trump to be used, in my opinion, but if she is about 9 then she was born before Melania's husband became a politician and I assume is not named after her?

I think it’s pretty.
Definitely prettier than ugly Melanie, who is big hair and aqua net hairspray and bossy.

Trump association aside, I can't get over that it means "inks".

I never liked it, mainly because I was never sure how to pronounce it, and when First Trophy Wife came along her pronunciation just doesn't sound good on somebody with an American accent.
Also, it looks weirdly like a disease.I do love the name Melanie. It's as pretty as a flower.

It's fresher and more modern than Melanie. I'd use the nn Lani.

I think it's nicer and less dated than Melanie. But I'm not a fan of Mel and Mal names in general, there's nothing about those prefixes that's appealing...melancholy, malicious, malignant, malevolent etc.

Ew, Trump.

NopeNo longer usable by association with D****d T***p.

It's pretty and less dated than Melanie. I prefer Melody, which has a similar sound, to both Melanie and Melania.

It sounds pretty, but I'm not really crazy about it because of...Trump. I actually prefer Melanie or Melody.
