Zander
What would you think if someone named their son Zander? Not Alexander, just...Zander? Hmm. Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

I'd be fine with it, though I prefer Xander.

I don't mind it (In fact, I wouldn't even bat an eye) but I do prefer the spelling of 'Xander' more. Seems more natural and also reminds me of one of my favorite characters, Xander Harris (Alexander) from Buffy. (:

I couldn't remember if the one from Buffy was Zander or Xander!

Average name. Maybe sporty and a little dated, like Jason but less distinctly 80's. I'd tend to assume Zander is just Zander, but Xander is probably short for Alexander.I think every Alexander I've met has been called Alex. I've also met a couple of guys named Sasha/Sascha but I don't know if they were actually short for Alexander or if that was their full name.

I don’t think I’d think anything of it, really. To me it’s kinda like the people who just name their kid Liam. I don’t think I’d automatically assume a Zander was actually Alexander.

I'm used to meeting Xanders, lots of them. Never a Zander though.Makes me think of the fish.

I'd think they were blinded by the glitter of trendy-initial Z. And I'd agree that it certainly surpasses Zebediah ...My nephew Alexander was known as Zander for the first few years, but now he'd happily Alex. When he was born, his elder brother used to call him, and refer to him as, BabybrotherZander - all one word; which was megacute but of course didn't last.

My husband was bullied by a kid named Alex and hates the name as a result. He started using Xander in college and it stuck. he's the only one in his family that actually uses a nickname. Hilariously enough his mom named him after a character in a book who went by the nickname Zander. His dad hated nicknames and refused to let his mom use it. His mom does not like the spelling with X but my husband being my husband doesn't like having a name shared by a fish. So he refuses to use the spelling Zander.

I suggested it to Mar two minutes before you made this post :-)I don't mind Zander as a full name, this it my least favorite spelling though. I prefer both Xander and Sander, the last one is also used as a surname here. One of my best childhood friend had this as his surname.

I'd think it was a dumb name whether it was short for Alexander or not. It just sounds silly. The z makes it extra silly-looking to me.
