Re: Cora or Kira?
I like both, but have a couple of things that make me lean toward Kira. But first, I would say in general go with your gut instinct if you have one in this case and the impression you want to bestow upon your child. As others have mentioned, Cora - while on-trend and gaining popularity because of its use in Downton Abbey - has a more timeless, classic feel and spelling whilst Kira has a more modern spelling and vibe to it. So if you like the former and that's what you're going for, use that and vice versa. My personal leanings:Cora has a classic yet fun and fresh feel. If you like Chloe, Cleo, Nora, or Ruby you might lean toward this one more. I also like that it can be a great nickname for other names like Coral (as someone already mentioned) or Coraline. Another spelling you might enjoy if you want a bit of a mashup of the two and don't mind a positive strong-female pop culture association is Korra - see https://www.nick.com/shows/legend-of-korraKira is even more youthful-seeming to me - if you like Kiera (a more "traditional" spelling of the Celtic name), Kyra, Mira, Kaya, Maya, or Zoe you might lean toward this one more. I do have one negative association that I think of readily with Kira spelled this one, however (again, a pop-culture one) in the books, anime TV show and movies of Deathnote Kira is the Japanese name for the megalomaniac mass-murderer (really a Japanese transliteration of "killer"). So not a huge deal, but if you know people who are familiar with manga/anime they'll likely make this association.Good luck and do let us know what you decide upon! Both are good in my opinion. :)
