I'm afraid that Valdemar might sound too close to Voldemort in English-speaking countries for it to be a good name for a British or American child. Obviously Voldemort is one name from Harry Potter that you'd want to stay away from! :)

I think Volmar would work OK in the USA. Vladimir is actually used somewhat in the Hispanic-American community.
