It falls in the grandparent-turned-hipster name category for me, like Stella and Otis. I probably wouldn't have a strong reaction one way or the other if I met someone named Alice. I definitely prefer this spelling over "Alys" that I've seen posted here a few times.

I prefer Alice too, but Alys or Alis isn't just a trendy spelling (I don't know if that's what you mean or not, but many people do seem to think so), it's the primary spelling in some languages. My parents only ever considered using Alys if my brother had been a girl, because my sister and I have Welsh names and it would have seemed odd for another child to have the English spelling.
