The sound of Annie annoys me and I've always hated Willa. Will is such a strong-sounding name, great for a boy or man, and adding an A to it doesn't do much to soften it and make it suitable for a female, IMO. I'd use Wilson as a middle name for a girl if it were important to my partner, but I'd never call her Willa.
