Frederick pleases me more, partly I think because it's a family name and Alfred isn't, but mostly because it's more versatile. Fred, Freddy, Derick, Eric ... however, come to think of it, I had a distant uncle who was John Wilfred and always went by Wilfred: he was born in the 1890s so I never knew him, but it doesn't make me enjoy Wilfred at all.
My father was, probably, one of the last of the Cecils! I'd pair Frederick with Cecil: the others are rather too vintage.
