Lovely. "Mira" or "Mimi".

Mimi! Never thought about that!

Love the name on its own. I don't like that it was popular for a while and started to sound less like a fantasy character and more like an average person, but I do like it.

I love it! She'd definitely go by Mira as a nickname, though; Randi sounds more dated.

It's all right. Not a favorite, but I don't dislike it either. I like its Shakespearean vibe.

I love it. It's been one of my favorite names since I was a teenager and that's never changed. I didn't use it because I feared the nickname Randi, but that was the only reason. Well, truth to tell, because I feared the nickname Randi, I never ran Miranda by my husband, so potentially his objection could have been another reason. Love it though.

I love. It's the name of my oldest niece, although she doesn't use it. She goes by Mira or Mary (her full name is Mary Miranda. Her mom's family has a tradition of giving honoring first names and then having them go by their middle name. Her mom is Mary Renee, she also goes by her, middle name.)

I like it a lot, but since it is highly likely to shorten to Randy, I'd only ever consider it as a mn. I suppose it could also become Mandy, which is almost as bad. But the association with The Tempest is almost irresistable.

I love it. I used to really dislike it but it’s grown on me tremendously.

It's been growing on me lately. Musical and sweet but not in a childish way. I'm not a fan of the probably-inevitable Randi nickname, though.

I've never even heard of a Miranda called Randi! Definitely not inevitable where I live. The Mirandas I know are either Miranda (usually said like "Mranda" so it's close to 2 syllables in everyday conversation). I knew one Miranda who was occasionally Mira.

My niece is Mira.

I've known a handful of Miranda's, and none of them have ever been called Randi...

I don’t think Randi’s inevitable at all, actually the first time I’ve heard that nickname for it.

To me, it didn't have to be inevitable. It only had to be possible.

It must be regional. I wouldn't have even thought of it as possible until seeing this thread. I guess I could see a tomboy Miranda looking for a better nickname and going by Randy, but not Randi, and I wouldn't expect random people to call a Miranda Randi the way they'd automatically call a Christopher Chris. (although randy means horny so it doesn't seem like a nickname someone would use on purpose)

Are you British? In the US, I would venture to say that most people are aware of the word "randy" and what it means, but it's not that commonly used. It's mostly thought of as a British usage.Randy was in the top one hundred for males in the US from 1948 through 1983. Randall was in the top one hundred from 1949 through 1969, and some of those men named Randall undoubtedly went by Randy, and the statistics for Randy don't even count them. Randi for girls was in the top thousand in the US from 1946 through 2001, although it never rose higher than #235. Nobody in the US bats an eye at Randy or Randi.

Yeah, that's how I feel with nicknames I do not like. What if the kid doesn't mind the nickname? Then, I would be hearing people call them a name I hate, every day. No, thanks.

I have a cousin named Gabrielle, my aunt absolutely despises the nickname Gabby so I’ve always been surprised she used it. To this day she’s still Gabrielle, but I believe she told me some friends call her Gabby at school.

My niece is called Gabrielle and she only goes by Ellie.

He. My SIL was concerned enough that she almost didn't use it.
