Layla
What does everyone think about the name Layla? I love the name Leila (lee-la) so im not going to spell it like that. Any suggestions on the spelling? Pierre thinks Layla looks trashy. What about Laila ?
Also in one of my books i have a sibling set of Jock & Layla.
Wdyt? Suggest a better sib set?

Until I came to this site, I always thought Leila = LEE-lah. But I recently started loving the sound of LAY-lah, but not Layla. It seems most people here think Leila = LAY-lah, so I'm sticking with that spelling right now. :b Laila or Laela could work for LAY-lah, though (although the former might be pronounced as LYE-lah). Ugh, so confusing, lol. Jock is interesting, but only as a nn -- makes me think of a 'jock strap' though. :-/

I really like the name Layla, it's lovely. If you are pronouncing it lay-luh, then I'd stick with Layla or Laila like you suggested. I don't find the spelling Layla trashy at all. Jock and Layla works as a sib set, but I don't like it. Jock is not a name I like very much. How about Hamish and Layla, Jake and Layla, Ryan and Layla, Remy and Layla or Caleb and Layla.
I like Layla. I think it's a sexy name, but there is definately a sweetness to it as well. I have no problem as all with the spelling.

Sorry, I don't like the way it looks either. I wouldn't go so far as "trashy" or "visual diarrhea" (LOL) but it does look kind of sloppy .. and the word "lay," with its bawdiness, jumps out at me.
I automatically would spell LAY-la as Leila, and LEE-la as Leela, and Laila looks like LY-la (Lila, Lyla) to me. So I think you're being really unconventional if you're naming a character and folks will be getting the prn from just reading the name. If you are naming a real person, I don't think it matters and I'd suggest going with Laila if you don't care for Leila. Or perhaps Laela.

Seems like you might get away with Lela for LAY-la too, like Lena (LAY-na)?
Or Leyla.. that's nicer looking than Layla to me. Hmm.
Of course, not everyone is so willing to get creative with spellings as I am =)
eta - wow, both those spellings are in the database - and they're even both for Leila (pronounced LAY-la)!

Layla is the visual equivalent of diarrhea. I really dislike it.
The way I pronunce the names in this family:
Leila = LAY-lah
Lela, Leela = LEE-lah
Laila = lah-EE-lah (which becomes lye-EE-lah sometimes in my accent)
Lila = Lila
So the only way I'd ever advocate it being spelled is Leila.

The only reason why i wont spell lee-la like Leela is because of futurama. Thanks for your opinions
