In general, I am not a big fan of jewel names. They come off as somewhat cheap and material value/money oriented. A few stones are associated with something beyond the bling factor, such as pearl (purity), jasper (antiquity), and Chinese names with jade meanings (since in China jade has more religious significance). Ruby is just "look at me, so shiny."
