It came to my mind in the recent "C girls' names" thread...I prefer Charmion, and I think I'd pronounce it with a hard C.
With a SH, it is too much like Charmin. It sounds like Charmaine, as other people have said, which seems okay (dated but not in a way I necessarily dislike): I hear it as sort of a cross between Charlotte and Jermaine. It also sounds similar to Sherman or Sharma. I like Sharma; Sherman, not so much.
I like it with a hard C, but not more than Carmen, which it seems very similar to, in sound and, in a way, meaning. Plus the 'charm' part is a little insufferable.
I'd maybe consider it for a pet bird.
