Phobos and Deimos (moons of Mars)
Hi !!!I recently watched a documentary where I came across these two names Phobos and Deimos. They both are moons of Mars and their names comes from Greek Mythology. Phobos and Deimos are twin gods children of Ares (Mars) and Aphrodite (Venus). Their names means "fear" and "dread".WDYTO them? What about using them on fictional characters? How can you picture them (humans, animals, wizards, hybrids, robots, ghosts, aliens, other legendary creatures...)?Personal Name Lists https://www.behindthename.com/pnl/125456

I wouldn't use them on actual humans, but think they can be cool for pets or maybe fictional villains. As a kid, I was into Sailor Moon. In the manga, Sailor Mars had two crows named Phobos and Deimos. It's actually how I learned that the planet had moons!

The meanings are too awful to use for a real person, imo. In some cases I can look past an unpleasant meaning, but in this case it tied back pretty heavily to their mythical source.Fictional characters is another matter. They do have nice and interesting sounds and the meanings could potentially be pretty on theme.

They are just moons to me! But it could be fun to give them to really ironically harmless pets - hamsters perhaps, or the kind of long-haired cats that basically lie around all day looking decorative.

I love both names. In high school I wanted to name my first boy Phobos Deimos (a double first name), thankfully my name tastes have gotten better. I would still use Phobos as a middle name possibly.I actually got Phobos back then from the villian of the cartoon w.i.t.c.h. and then looked it up and found out about the moons and the mythology. On fictional characters, I can only see the cartoon character but i could see it used for a magical character or a giant pet of some kind.It has a cool kid, smart vibe to it.

Automatically makes me think of Pain and Panic from Disney's Hercules. They also sound like the names of familiars in the His Dark Materials series (only read bits and bobs of that). Would be a good name for guard dogs, they have a sort of comedic tone to them. I guess it's the OTT grimdark-ness of them.

I've always thought they'd be good names for a pair of dogs. Deimos especially sounds cool. Phobos doesn't sound bad but it seems more wordy to me, like just calling someone "fear".

Honestly I think they're over the top even for characters. I could only imagine it on sons named by Voldemort. They'd be great names for pet black cats or bats or something.

same. They seem best for predators or sons of a dark wizard.
