It's dated, and not in a good way. It sounds quite old lady-like and unappealing. Felisa and Felicia are much nicer.

Phyllis isn't bad (as long as it's spelled this way), but I much prefer the more poetic Phyllida (FIL-i-duh).

Hi !!!I used to rate it 7/10 as it has a nice sound. Now that I see also its history I'll add it to my list!! It means "foliage" in Ancient Greek and its sound is also similar to 'phileo' the verb meaning "to love" !!! That's great!Phyllis is officially in my list of favourites!!

Surprisingly, it's been used here in South Africa, though not often, and the youngest one I've encountered must be 70 by now. Even more surprisingly, it's been used by Afrikaans speakers - it sounds like the Afrikaans word for 'garbage' or 'rubbish'. I quite like it, but not enough to use; certainly not in this country.
