I want to like this name, but it mostly just makes me think of how the reefs are dying. Also ‘oral’ really sticks out to me in it. It’s my MIL’s MN and we live near the ocean so I do wish I was fonder of it.

I want to like it but I went to school with a nasty girl named Coral. It would be a cool name for a mermaid.

My first association is 'endangered species'. My second thought is 'it rhymes with oral and looks like corral, weird'.I like Cora and Coralie a lot more.

I have the exact same associations.

I think it's great. It has a good sound and I have a weakness for word names. I was going to refer to it as a plant name, but I double-checked on Wikipedia, and found that coral is an animal and not a plant. Biology teachers past, please forgive me.

I knew that coral was an animal for a long time, although a lot of cartoons (like SpongeBob) tend to treat it as a plant. Even weirder, some of them treat sea anemones as plants even though it's an animal too. It's especially weird when mermaids are shown wearing them in their hair.

Too easily confused with Carol. I actually had a colleague once whose granddaughter was Coral, because the parents had thought that Carol was too common and swapped the vowels.I absolutely love Coralie, but I think it'd be too fancy for me to use. Coral doesn't appeal at all, by comparison.

I think it is very pretty and lovely.

I prefer Cora. Coral sounds harsh, to me.
