I like Margaret too, though less happy with the "et" (ette) suffix, yet this resolves through derivatives and pet names.
I love Maggie and Mags; Meg and even Peg but like Peggy better: I see little reason why a Margaret cannot be Gretta if she likes (I happen to like Gretchen).

My husband and I always planned on naming our first girl Margaret, nn Meg. Then we got pregnant and went with Miriam.
I love the name quite a lot. We planned on using Margaret Cecilia or Margaret Mae.
Not a big fan of the nn Maggie.

I've loved it since I was a teenager. I'm not sure what drew me to it initially, but I find it very jewel-y, a beautiful shade of red, and it's strong and confident yet warm and domestic. I can picture it on any kind of person.
My favorite nickname for it is probably Margie. I went to elementary school with a girl whose little sister was Marjie (in her case short for Marjorie), and I always loved it.
My daughter is named Margaret. I wanted to call her Margie for short, but she is a Meg, I knew that before she was even born. Her middle name is Sue after my grandma, so no kind of fantastic combo. *shrug*

Margaret itself doesn't have a lot of appeal for me - it's sort of matronly, I mean in a positive way, it's a good name. But it doesn't appeal to me as a name for a child.
I do like some of the nicknames - even as full names. My favorites are
Maggie
Margot
Peggy
Gretchen
And I also like Meg, Meggie, and Margie pretty well.

I had an aunt named Margaret;her full name was Margaret Jessie, quite a nice combo.
Also had a cousin named Margaret-named, of course, for our aunt. Both were always called Margaret, no nicks.
Meg, or Meggie, is a nice nick name. I don't much like Maggie.

Margaret's fine, but I strongly prefer (and adore) the variants Marguerite, Margareta, and Margalit.

I like Margaret, but none of the nns appeal to me so I'd only use it as a mn.
Hi !!!!
I like the NN Merry for It. Also Greer is a very nice short form for Margaret!
Personally I prefer Margherita (Italian form) or Margrethe (Danish form).
I would pair something short and less common.
Margaret Belle
Margaret Neve (like Niamh)
Margaret Helia
Margaret Sylvia
Margaret Chelsea
Margaret Aisha / Aicha
Margaret Blossom
Margaret Leslie
Margaret Saibh
Margaret Queenie / Quinn

I like Margaret a lot and always have. I knew plenty of people named Margaret growing up so it never seemed like an old lady name to me. My favorite nickname is Maggie. I also like Meg, Margot, and Greta.
Margaret and Rebecca is a great set.
I don't have any combos but I don't love Margaret paired with a one syllable middle name like, for example, Margaret Anne. It just sounds grim to me.
