They have a meaning while Sherry seems only a variant to my ears.

I really like it a lot, possibly because of women named Sherry that I've known, but also as an alternate for Sharon, which I like but find a bit stern. I'd rather be (or have a daughter named) Sherry than Scarlett, Piper, Harper, Paisley, Brooklyn, Luna, Juniper, Hazel, Ruby, Nova ...

I don't think Sherry was ever really a reference to drinking alcohol, it was just a fashionable sound, like Cheryl and Sharon... to me, the idea that it's a booze name is like saying that Amber is a warning name, or Luna is a moth name, or Piper is a tobacco name. Yeah, those connections can be made - but if that's what someone thinks the names are *supposed* to be, they don't get it.

I think it'll be a while before the "sher"-names become a thing again, or the -erry names. They're just dated, still. And prudery about alcohol and "class" might make it unlikely to come back too.

I don't think it'll come back anytime soon, that's for sure.
I like it, but my aunt's name is Shari, pronounced just like Sherry, and till I was almost grown I thought that was the usual spelling and that Sherry was weird. Of course now I know that Shari is the more unusual one.

maybe as an honoring name. it definitely isn't much worse than a few certain trendy names nowadays. and i don't believe the drink is even so popular nowadays (not that i'd really know). but it's still a drink. which sucks, because the sound is nice and it does have legitimate etymology besides that (even if the spelling was likely influenced by the drink..and/or the French word for "darling", which isn't worlds better). plenty of Sherrys have been able to make it just fine with their name though, so the word is more of an annoyance than an actual barrier to being taken seriously or whatever.

Nope. I highly doubt it. I immediately get a not so positive image when I read/hear this. It's also a drink. Very bad to pair with Brandy (yes, pun intended)
