WDYTO Fern?

Fern is really unique in that it's the only name I can think of where the stressed (sole) vowel is a schwa. (Even Pearl sounds a little... stronger.) However, with that said, it still doesn't fade in the background. It's easy to spell, and you don't forget when you've met a Fern. It's a cool name.

i love it as a unisex name. leaning a bit towards for boys, because there's not enough plant names that are so usable for boys. but i love how strong it sounds on a girl especially.
I prefer Fern to Fernanda.
I don't enjoy the -er- sound in most names: Merle, Pearl, Mervyn, Percy ... and the only Fern I've ever met was a very forgettable person who said she was a medical student, though this seemed unlikely. Not a recommendation! But if I had a partner who really loved it, I'd try to warm up.

I like Fern.I think it is one of the older names that is underused at this point.
Very pretty.
I really like it, but I do quite fancy botanical names anyway. It's pretty, short and simple, but also has the appeal that it would age well. I like Ferny as a nn for a little girl too, very cute.
It's one of my favorite names. Very pretty and too rare. I've loved it since I was a kid, when I read Charlotte's Web. The only Fern I ever knew in real life was my best friend's Brownies leader when we were little. (I have no idea why I remember that!) I also love the plants, so I think that makes me appreciate the name even more.
I like it very much. It's both cool, fresh and sweet.
Fern seems like a rockabilly name, to me. She would look like this:
I like it. I used to think it was super nerdy, which isn't a bad thing, but it's morphed into a name with more attitude, over the years. It's weird when names do that.

By far and away the most famous Fern in the UK spells the name Fearne, and when I hear the name I think of her. It's funny to me that the name strikes you as being nerdy when here it belongs to a modern day It girl here!

I don't think I've ever met anyone named Fern. It's a name I only hear in movies and TV shows.
