What do you think of Scout for a girl?

I like it but, when I do come across it, I think it’s best suited for the literary character. I feel like the parents were trying to be cool. Maybe as a nickname I’d like it better.

I think it works better as a nickname than an actual given name.

I think it's tacky

I far prefer Jean Louise.

I’m not a fan. It just doesn’t seem like a name to me, and in the book it comes from it was a nickname, not the characters actual name.

I think it makes a good dog name.

I kinda like it. I like the character and I think it's fun and has a nice sound. If it wasn't associated with Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts etc, it would probably work better as a real name. I think it could work if it's a nn with a real fn to fall back on, or even as a fn but with a mn to fall back on, in case she doesn't want to go by Scout her whole life.

I like it but only because I love the character. Maybe only as a nn for me as I do agree it's too nny to use as the actual name. I actually really like Louise so I always went that route thinking.... I can see a girl or grown woman using Scout, but I feel having a "real" first name to fall back on helps. Introduce self as Scout, person gives weird look, "oh my name is _ but mom called me Scout as a kid and it stuck."

Girls scouts, boy scouts, cookies, summer camp. That's all I think about. I have a hard time imagining calling a woman Scout.

Works for the character. Feels contrived on a real person.

Personally, I find it twee and trendy. I don’t like it.

Scout was Jean Louise's nickname. It's a nickname, not a name.I really dislike it. You wouldn't name a kid Buddy or Honey, so why Scout?

I know :P I actually think most people know that it is not her real name but it has somehow appealed to people anyway.

I like it, short and feisty, lots of energy. I didn’t used to be too much of a fan, but I’d love to meet a little Scout.
