What are your thoughts on Rowena? And how would you pronounce it?

I pronounce it ro-WEEN-uh, and I’m sorry but I really hate it. I can’t stand the “ween” sound.

I like Rowena very much. It makes me think of the Supernatural character, so now I always picture a Rowena as having vibrant red hair.I pronounce it row-ee-nuh, like they do in the show.

I adore Rowena! I pronounce it "ro-WEE-na."

I love the look, but the sound (ro-WEE-na) puts me off. However, Rowenna (ro-WEN-na) and Rowan (for either gender) are some of my favorite names.I've never heard of it being pronounced ro-WAY-na before reading some of the other responses, but I like that pronunciation.

I think it's pretty! I prn. it Ro-WAY-na.

I like it a lot: I enjoy the fake medievalism and even tried to read Ivanhoe, but gave up.I also like the fact that, in my experience anyway, it has no obvious nns!I prefer Rowan for a boy to Rowena for a girl, and one couldn't use both.

I like it, despite the lack of meaning. It just sounds decent and looks well-rounded to me. Would pronounce it row-EE-na.

I like it I'd pronounce it with a long /o/, a long /e/, and a short /a/.

As Row-EE-nuh, which I’m inclined to say/think is more intuitive, I think it’s okay. I’m not a huge fan of -ee-nuh endings, but Rowena is one of the better ones in my opinion. On the other hand Ro-ENN-uh, which I have on my list as Rowenna, is absolutely gorgeous and one of my favourites. I just adore all the sounds in Rowenna and love them even more together. The perfect balance of soft and strong, whimsical and down to earth.

ro-WEE-na. It's okay, I think I prefer the simplicity of Rowan which I like on both genders. I love the nature connection of Rowan. Rowena just doesn't do anything for me. I find it to be a bit forgettable. It's fine, it just doesn't excite me.I also find it kind of awkward to pronounce in English. I have the same issue with the English pronunciation of Aurora. I mean I can say it just fine, it just doesn't exactly roll off the tongue and I wouldn't enjoy calling it several times per day.

Agreed, although maybe not as awkward as Aurora, at least not to me.

It’s okay but I don’t think I would ever use it. I would say “row-en-ah” but I’m scared that people are going to say “ro-wee-nah”.

I wish it was said Row-enna. In the UK it's Row-ee-na.I like the look but the long 'wee' sound puts me off.If I did use it I'd spell it Rowenna and hope for the best.

That's why I prefer Rowenna.
I do like Rowena as ro-way-na but it would be hard to avoid "roweena".

I have a relative who was named it, after a Meic Stevens song (if you're at all curious about 70s Welsh folk, it's here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pR9qyM9PaY0) She really, really hates it. I quite like the sound, the look and the rarity of it, but it's a GP because of said relative. It's row EE nuh in the UK.

I played it, nice! It's new to me.

I'd be amazed if anyone had heard of him outside Wales, but he's well-known in it. Still gigging in his seventies. :)

I adore Rowena. I really really really REALLY wish my husband like it :( It's like the only name that I like that he doesn't :( I'm hoping to use it for a MN for #2 if it's a girl (if he lets me). I pronounce it Row-EE-nuh. I know 2 of them.

Hi !!!!I really love the name Rowena!
It is exotic, strong, aristocratic and witchy, all' positive things imo.I pronounce It raw-VE-na with a closed o and a v instead of w as It is in German.
