Thistle
I posted a poll about a combo featuring Thistle today, and to my delighted surprise, it hasn't elicited unanimous disgust! So, what do you all think of this word-name? I prefer it as a female name because I generally prefer female names to male names, but it's obviously unisex. Here are some combos for you to critique:Thistle Beatrice
Thistle Caroline
Thistle Cordelia
Thistle Cornelia
Thistle Edith
Thistle Emily
Thistle Enid
Thistle Eugenia
Thistle Eugenie
Thistle Frederica
Thistle Genevieve
Thistle Georgiana
Thistle Gwendolen
Thistle Harriet
Thistle Henrietta
Thistle Hermione
Thistle Irene
Thistle Josephine
Thistle Juliet
Thistle Marguerite
Thistle Maria
Thistle Marianne
Thistle Miriam
Thistle Penelope
Thistle Rebecca
Thistle Rosemary
Thistle Virginia
Thistle Winifred P.S. Here's an example of a human Thistle: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thistle_Yolette_Harris

usually i'm all for out there nature names, but Thistle i think is best for a character or a pet (would be lovely for a cat). for a person, it feels too unsubstantial. most other flower names have clearer meanings and imagery. thistles however are barely even known.also, though i love names with 'th' in them now, i was unable to say that sound as a kid (had a few speech impediments + a leftover, watered down accent from immigrant parents).

I love that the real life Thistle was a botanist. :) I like it actually, both on girls and boys. My favorites from your combos areThistle Cornelia
Thistle Emily
Thistle Hermione (probably my absolute favorite)
Thistle Juliet
Thistle Miriam
Thistle Penelope
Thistle Rebecca
Thistle Virginia

It sounds like a cutesy fairy from a children's storybook. You can decide for yourself whether that's good or bad.

So good! :)

I don't think I like Thistle as a name. Maybe on a (female) cat or dog it might work.

I like the name Thistle, it seems so fierce and Scottish. I especially like it as a mn but I also like it as a fn.I do have some difficulty remembering to properly pronounce the th- sound so sometimes it becomes Fistle. If I have time tomorrow I may remember to critique those combos but I need to head to bed right now.

I feel about Thistle much the same as I do about Ivy: why give a daughter you intend to love the name of one of the most annoying plants ever to infest a garden?Apart from that, I'm haunted by the spikiness, and the likelihood that she might have a sister, cousin, aunt or casual acquaintance named Holly.

Hard for me to pronounce, but I like it. Really appreciate the naturey feel, and it seems really nonbinary to me so gender isn’t a factor. From your list I definitely like:Thistle Genevieve
Thistle Juliet
Thistle Marguerite (love the plant theme here)
Thistle Cornelia Some male combos:Thistle Gregory
Thistle Robin
Thistle Kelly
Thistle BernardSome agender / nonbinary / neutral combos: Thistle Morgan
Thistle Hayden
Thistle Meadow (ok, maybe this is too themey)
Thistle Micah
Thistle Devon

I love it! It's witchy and prickly, and kind of like Heather or Hazel without the 80's connotations. That said I'd definitely prefer it on a cat. It can't have a middle name that's too clean or rounded. I like:
Thistle Cornelia
Thistle Edith (looks good, but actually too much "th")
Thistle Frederica
Thistle Gwendolen
Thistle Harriet
Thistle Hermione
Thistle Marguerite
Thistle Miriam
Thistle Rebecca
Thistle Rosemary
Thistle WinifredAlso:
Thistle Keridwen
Thistle Ceridwen
Thistle Hecate
Thistle Hekate
Thistle Hazel
Thistle Marian
Thistle Inanna
Thistle Ivy
Thistle Bronwen
Thistle Branwen
Thistle Brangaine
Thistle Niniane
Thistle Elaine
Thistle Ismene
Thistle Antigone
Thistle Rosalind
Thistle Philippa
Thistle Sibylla
Thistle Gwyneira
Thistle Raven
Thistle Hrafna
Thistle Gwynneth
Thistle Winona
Thistle Willow
Thistle Rain
Thistle Raina
Thistle Raine
Thistle Diana
Thistle Diantha
Thistle Morgan

I think it's pretty, but fear it would be devastatingly lispy with a great many children and cancel the charm with irl use for a few years. I love the beautiful but harsh aspect of thistles and I think its cool in a name.I really likeThistle Cordelia
Thistle Juliet
Thistle MiriamThe only one I really don't like is Thistle Rosemary, because it seems odd to pair Thistle with an herb.

I think it would be a cute name for a rabbit.

I love it! It's one of my favorite guilty pleasure names. Though I wouldn't use it, I would be delighted to meet a little Thistle.
I think these combos flow the best:
-- Thistle Enid
-- Thistle Eugenia/Eugenie
-- Thistle Genevieve
-- Thistle Gwendolen
-- Thistle Irene
-- Thistle Marianne
-- Thistle Rosemary
-- Thistle Winifred Out of those, I really like how Thistle Marianne sounds -- something about the wide-sounding vowels of Marianne is a good complement to the more narrow vowels of Thistle. I also think Thistle Eugenia/Eugenie would be lovely, too.

Too harsh and lispy, sorry. No middle name could soften or brighten it up IMHO.I like these however: (Names alone I mean) Caroline
Cordelia (Sort of)
Emily
Enid (Ugh, so much better than Edith! Another 'lispy' name in my book).
Henrietta
Josephine
Juliet
Maria (Overused but always a classic beauty)
Rebecca
Virginia

I went through a phase about a decade ago in which Thisbe was my favorite name, and I liked the idea of using Nettle as a pet name, instead of Nettie; I liked Thistle during the same time. Then at some point I thought, 'thistle rhymes with gristle' and 'nettle is an irritant', and I haven't been able to forget it.It's eccentric, but I can see the appeal. It also reminds me of Briar and Clover.
Thistle Harriet, Thistle Beatrice, Thistle Marianne are my favorite of the combos.
Here's some more...Thistle Paulette
Thistle Jean
Thistle Octavia
Thistle Dionysia
Thistle Herut
Thistle Yoana
Thistle Dorit
Thistle Genet
Thistle Adiam
Thistle Aida
Thistle Berhane
Thistle Liberty
Thistle Gloria
Thistle Carmina
Thistle Kirabo
Thistle Kenina
Thistle Roshani
Thistle Cassandra
Thistle Miranda
Thistle Nandini
Thistle Noga
Thistle Alganesh
Thistle Halldora
Thistle Halfrid
Thistle Merida
Thistle Viviana
