Robin for a boy
Replies
I think it is SO CUTE!
I prefer it on a boy, no doubt. I'm still not sure I like the name in general. I don't like word names, and I only think of the bird.
I think Robin on a boy is absolutely adorable. I really like it.
Absolutely fine. It's usually a boys' name in Sweden and I've only met boy Robins.
I don't even think of Robin (m) and Robin (f) as the same name at all. The boy name is traditional, Robin is to Robert as Sally is to Sarah, and has nothing whatsoever to do with birds. And the girl name is a nature name, after the bird, and has nothing at all to do with Robert. That's how I see it, anyway.
I like Robin (m) very well. I proposed it as a name for our son. But my husband didn't like it - probably because he was born in the sixties and knew tons more female Robins in his life, than male. It's almost getting to be an old man name, and I wouldn't mind if people revived it.
The bird name (f) is just ok ... small, brown, simple, reliable.

In the UK, I think you could pull it off more easily though it's pretty dated there, from what I can tell.
In the US, Robin was never all that popular as a boy's name, but was very popular for girls. It's not in style anymore for either.
I only like it on girls.

I like it very much and would use it on a boy without hesitation.
On a girl, I rather dislike it. Robyn removes the gender ambiguity somewhat, but where I live it introduces a further ambiguity, as 'robyn' (pron. roo-uh-BAYN0 is Afrikaans for ruby.

Sure, why not. It's more male to me than female to me.
Not a fav of mine, but not bad either.

I like it a lot more for a boy than a girl!
It's one of my current favorites. I think it's been out of style just long enough to feel fresh, and there are enough famous male Robins that I don't think most people would have a knee-jerk reaction to it on a boy.

I've known more male Robin's than girl Robin's. There's always the nickname Rob available, but I think it's masculine enough without.

I like it, and only for a boy. It's very unusual as a feminine name where I live, and I've only met male Robin's.
