When I was a little girl I always thought it was so weird that they named a Disney princess the same thing as that tower on top of my house that enabled us to pick up TV channels. I’ve always hated it, sorry.

The Little Mermaid is my only association with this name, which probably dates me. It is pretty, and possibly usable.

I do, but prefer the Ariel spelling for a boy and the Arielle spelling for a girl. As is evident in my DD's mn :)

The excessive, er, masculinity of Ariel Sharon has rubbed off on to his fn, and that's before we consider the androgynous but basically male spirit in The Tempest.

On a girl, I'd expect Arielle if anything, but I'd still find it an odd choice.

No, not with that spelling. I just think of the little mermaid and Ariel washing powder.
Arielle is a different name to me - and I like it a lot better. Even Ariella is better than Ariel.
