As a first name, Alexandra is stale and lifeless to me because I grew up with a glut of Alexandras (and Alexanders) nicknamed Alex. As a middle name, however, its mythological cachet coruscates, e.g. Enid Alexandra, Myrtle Alexandra, Winifred Alexandra, Sibyl Alexandra, Gertrude Alexandra.

I prefer the name in full, but if I had to use a nickname, I'd opt for Andra or Andie.
