Romanian names
What do you think of these Romanian names?
Btw, in Romanian, /ci/ and /ce/ make a “ch” sound, as in cheese. Ă and â makes an “uh” sound or schwa (they’re actually slightly different but hard to explain in English). Ț is a “ts” sound. Ș is a “sh” sound. Other letters are pronounced as in Spanish.
Masculine:
Ovidiu
Florin
Lucian
Marian
Costin
Cătălin
Aurel
Decebal
Dragoș
Flaviu
Horațiu
Traian
Feminine:
Ana
Brândușa
Constanța (also a city)
Ecaterina
Gavrila
Larisa
Miruna
Otilia
Rodica
Viorica

I love Romanian names!!
(I love a lot of Eastern European names. Not enough discussion about those here!)
Masculine:
Ovidiu -Kind of cool, but I wouldn't use it. Better as a character name, imo.
Florin -I met one once and I was overjoyed. This is a fantastic name.
Lucian -I prefer the loo-see-an pronunciation of this name.
Marian -I LOVE this, especially since they use it as a masculine name and accent the last syllable. ♥
Costin -cool
Cătălin -ADORE ADORE. The only known male form of Katherine so... that's kind of attractive to me. ♥
Aurel -cute, but not amazing
Decebal -nms
Dragoș -I like it.
Flaviu -I'd like to meet one, but I wouldn't use it.
Horațiu -Better than Horatio, but not by much.
Traian -meh
Feminine:
Ana -dull
Brândușa -The "douche" sound makes me dislike this one.
Constanța (also a city) -LOVE. ♥
Ecaterina -I don't care for any version this name that ends in -rina. I think the -rina part sounds sounds whiney to my ears.
Gavrila -neutral
Larisa -nms
Miruna -I HAVE FALLEN SO IN LOVE WITH THIS LATELY. ♥
Otilia -pretty
Rodica -neutral
Viorica -It's growing on me.
Some of my favourite Romanian names (because they are definitely under discussed):
Masculine:
Silviu
Mădălin
Mircea
Viorel

We have flights from Bucharest, Cluj and Iasi at work so I get to see lots of Romanian names. Today I met a man named Florin Sorin (made me smile, it's pretty funny).
In general I like the masculine names more than the feminine.

Ovidiu - Love
Florin - like
Lucian - Haha, I always get this name mixed up with Lucius (as in Malfoy). It's not my cup of tea.
Marian - Not my cup of tea. I know a girl with this name. I'm not too fond of her, and I'm obviously biased because of her.
Costin - Wouldn't use it myself, but it's a solid name
Cătălin - I think I've seen this as a feminine name as well(?), and I kind of get that vibe from it too
Aurel - Not my cup of tea
Decebal - LOVE
Dragoș - The sound of it isn't too appealing to me, but I like the meaning.
Flaviu - like this one alot
Horațiu - not my cup of tea
Traian - not my cup of tea
Ana - like
Brândușa - I like flower names, but not this particular one.
Constanța (also a city) - love
Ecaterina - like this spelling even more than Ekaterina! Love!
Gavrila - not my cup of tea
Larisa - not too fond of -isa names
Miruna - like
Otilia - fond of, but wouldn't use it
Rodica - sounds a bit unfinished to me
Viorica - my favorite

Agreed completely! And I love Dragoș, too. The English meaning doesn’t cross my mind unless I consciously think about it; it just makes me think of love. Of course it’s probably not workable here because of what it sounds like in English
Of the feminine names, Rodica is the only one that grabs my attention in a positive way. It's interesting, without being weird. Miruna has potential as well.
I really like Traian and Dragos. I would prefer Constantin over just Costin, but it's not bad either. Ovidiu and Horatiu are good too, but I prefer them both with an -s at the end (which wouldn't make them the Romanian versions anymore).
I knew a guy called Marian. Over here it's mainly used as a feminine name, so it took me a short while to get used to it.
