I taught a class once which contained a boy named Bradley who was quite bright but erratic. One night, the Rocky Horror Picture Show was on very late-night TV when all good little teenagers should have been asleep. And the next morning I was returning their - something, test, homework, whatever - with positive comments where possible. Got to young Bradley, who'd had a blond moment, handed his attempt to him, sighed and said "Oh, Brad" to which about three-quarters of the class joyfully chorused "Oh, dammit!" and then blushed. Makes a teacher's life worthwhile.

I think it sounds old. It reminds me of a menopausal woman who works in the accounting department and is absolutely miserable. When I heard it in The Conjuring 2 on a little girl, it sounded very strange. It does sound slightly better in a British accent, however.

It's weird, because there's nothing at all masculine about the name Janet, obviously. But the name calls to mind a mannish-looking woman with a mustache, and thick ankles. I have no idea why.

There's this scene in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt where Titus meets a baby named Linda and he acts like it's the most ridiculous thing ever ("That's not a baby name; that's a name for an adult woman who works in human resources and says stuff like, "Mondays""). Honestly Janet kind of gives me the same vibe.
Trying to separate it from that, the sound doesn't really appeal to me, particularly the -ann- sound in the middle. The medieval variant Jennet is more appealing sounding to me.

I think it’s cute, spunky and retro. I’d like to see it out and about. I wouldn’t use it myself though, because it began as a nn for Jane, and somehow the name purist/snob in me won’t allow that.

I think it would be interesting to meet a baby girl named Janet. It's unique and different nowadays, and I like it. I think it's a nice change from the Janelle/Jaelynn stuff that's so popular.

If I met a baby Janet, I'd be amazed and delighted. It's instantly recognisable, cheerful and friendly and extremely dated - I imagine that it's pretty much been replaced by Jane and Joanne, having first been dislodged by Janice. Also, where I live one does see more Jeannette people than elsewhere in the English-speaking world, so there's that as a possible option too.
